Netsujo CEO Tomohiro Iida is supporting Minecraft Disaster-Prevention Camp 2026

Tomohiro Iida, CEO of Netsujo Inc., is supporting Minecraft Disaster-Prevention Camp 2026, a disaster-prevention and inquiry-based learning event for elementary and junior high school students, to be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at KOIN on the 3rd floor of the Kyoto Economic Center. Iida is providing planning support, venue and stakeholder coordination, and PR support, and will also take part in operations on the day.
In the event, participants explore a town recreated inside Minecraft to find hazards such as earthquakes, flooding, and fire. In groups, they discuss how to make the area safer, build disaster-prevention ideas such as shelters, levees, and evacuation routes inside Minecraft, and finish by presenting their thinking.
The event is open to students from 4th grade elementary through 9th grade (the final year of junior high school). No prior Minecraft experience is required.
How the day runs
- An icebreaker to meet the other members of your group
- A lecture covering the basics of disaster prevention
- Exploring the Minecraft town to find hazards
- Discussing countermeasures with your group and building them in Minecraft
- Presenting what you built and the reasoning behind it, as a group
Designing and building the challenge world, and supporting Minecraft operation, is handled by current Kyoto University students from the Kyoto University Minecraft Club (KUMC). Educational supervision and overall facilitation on the day are handled by Tomoya Kitada, a former teacher and inquiry-based-learning coordinator who represents Kyoto AI×Edu Lab (KAEL).

Tomohiro Iida, CEO of Netsujo Inc., is contributing to this event across four areas:

This support covers organizing the plan ahead of the event, coordinating the venue and logistics, and communicating information to participants, and extends to taking part in operations on August 8, 2026 itself. Netsujo works on the social implementation of digital technology and on running IT communities, based in Kyoto, and this cooperation is one instance of students, educators, and local venues working together.

On safety
This is a non-profit educational event, held with permission from the Kyoto City Board of Education to use its name as a supporting body. A former teacher serving as inquiry-learning coordinator is responsible for educational supervision and safety considerations. The event is also covered, at the organizer’s expense, by a Sompo Japan recreational-activity liability insurance light plan.
How to apply

Frequently asked questions
- I've never used Minecraft. Can I still join?
- Yes. Student staff from the Kyoto University Minecraft Club (KUMC) will support you with the controls and the way of thinking.
- Which device should I bring?
- Please bring a tablet, PC, or smartphone with Minecraft "Bedrock Edition" already downloaded. A charger and writing materials are also needed.
- Can a guardian come with me?
- Yes. Depending on venue capacity, however, priority may go to guardians accompanying elementary-school participants.
- Is the content different between Session 1 and Session 2?
- It's the same program both times. Please apply for whichever time suits you.
